Converge scales up child online safety drive as award-winning ‘Project PIGLET’ lands in Cebu

Leading fiber broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has amplified its nationwide child online safety and data privacy campaign, extending its award-winning digital literacy initiative, Project PIGLET, to elementary students in Cebu.

This marks a significant milestone in the company’s regional advocacy footprint, bringing critical cyber-safety education to the Visayas region. Under Project PIGLET (Privacy Integration through Guided Learning of Emerging Technologies), Converge data privacy and corporate communications teams hosted interactive, space-themed learning sessions for third and fifth-grade pupils of the Science and Technology Education Center - Science and Technology Elementary School (STEC-STES) in Lapu-Lapu City.

Interactive Learning for the Digital Generation

During the Cebu run, students participated in an interactive storytelling session featuring “The Adventures of Captain Conrad and the Astro Kids.” The curriculum, tailored for children as young as seven, focused on identifying online scams, preventing identity theft, and avoiding online grooming. This iteration also integrated critical lessons on safe online engagement and recognizing malicious content that incites harm.

“Especially now that the internet is potentially exploited to influence minors, we must take active steps to educate children on practicing vigilance,” said Eumir Paolo Espiritu, Converge AVP and Head of Data Privacy and Information Security Compliance. “The digital space offers boundless learning opportunities, but only if our youth are equipped to navigate it safely.”

While we are proactive in protecting our network against malicious content, we will need everyone's help to ensure the internet becomes a safe space for all.”

Empowering Schools and Communities

To help bridge the digital divide and support Cebuano learners, Converge donated learning tablets to STEC, boosting the school's digital capabilities and ensuring students can access safe, educational online resources.

STEC-STES Principal Susana Amora expressed deep gratitude for the initiative, noting that the partnership is timely as digitization accelerates in schools. “We are fully in the digital era, but with this transition comes the urgent need for responsible usage. Parents and educators play a crucial role in shaping safe online experiences, and we are grateful to Converge for bringing these tools directly to our community,” she said.

“As an internet service provider, our goal is a clean, secure network, but we cannot do it alone,” added Jay-Anne Encarnado, Converge VP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations. “We need a cooperative ecosystem—parents, educators, and schools working alongside us—to safeguard the digital lives of Filipino children.”

The grassroots advocacy aligns with the company's robust network-level security framework. In 2025 alone, Converge denied nearly 12 billion entry requests to websites hosting dangerous, inappropriate, and harmful content, while blacklisting over 72,000 domains linked to illicit materials.

“We have always taken a hard-line position against dangerous and illicit content that harms the most vulnerable in our society, especially our children,” said Dennis Anthony Uy, Converge CEO and Co-Founder. 

“Beyond investing heavily in network defense tools to shield our customers, we are actively collaborating with national authorities—including the DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology), NTC (National Telecommunications Commission), CICC (Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center), and PNP (Philippine National Police) — and international bodies like the Internet Watch Foundation to eliminate cyber threats. However, network blocks are only half the battle; empowering our youth through education is the ultimate shield,” he added. 

An award-winning advocacy

In recognition of its outstanding contribution to youth safety, the National Privacy Commission (NPC) awarded the prestigious Kabataang Digital Award to Converge for Project PIGLET. The award honors impactful initiatives that advance digital responsibility, privacy awareness, and data protection safeguards for children across the Philippines.

Initially launched in late 2024, Project PIGLET has successfully rolled out across key regions, including Metro Manila, Pampanga, Mindoro, and now Cebu, exemplifying Converge’s "Tech for Good" mission to leave no community behind in the digital age.
